The International Labour organization (ILO) will convene a two-day regional workshop to review the recent transport sector HIV and AIDS developments within the sub-region and to share practical inputs on what works and how the HIV/AIDS Toolkit in the Road Transport Sector can be improved to make it more effective within the new sub-regional HIV context.

The International Labour organization (ILO) will convene a two-day regional workshop to review the recent transport sector HIV and AIDS developments within the sub-region and to share practical inputs on what works and how the HIV/AIDS Toolkit in the Road Transport Sector can be improved to make it more effective within the new sub-regional HIV context.
The workshop will be held under the theme “Charting the ILO HIV and AIDS response in the transport sector” and will bring together participants from the tripartite constituents including; workers, employers and government representatives from Malawi, Mozambique, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
The Director of ILO CO/DWT, Pretoria, Mr Vic Van Vuuren will deliver an opening statement at the workshop. Participants from the Department of Transport, Department of Health, SANAC, Department of Labour and SADC Secretariat will also deliver welcome remarks.
Over 10 years have passed after the first ILO comprehensive response on HIV and AIDS in the transport sector. Since 2002, the ILO has utilized the networks of its constituencies and built their capacities to advance policies, implement programmes and enable transport sector institutions to maintain the programmes established.
The objectives of the proposed workshop are:
1. To review recent HIV and AIDS developments in the sub-region concerning the transport sector.
2. To provide the ILO with practical inputs on what works and what needs to be improved for this toolkit to be more effective within the new sub-regional HIV context.
3. To draft an updated country activities plan.
