It is a pleasure for me to be here today discussing the important issue of youth leadership in peace and security. We have so much to learn from being more inclusive vis-à-vis young people as I know from being taught how to use my iPhone by my 10 year old grand-daughter!

Students from the Department of Library and information Studies from the University of Limpopo, in South Africa, visited the UNIC Pretoria Library last month to gain a better understanding of the UN in South Africa and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Accompanied by their lecturers, the visit was part of an educational tour of special interest and academic libraries. The United Nations Association of South Africa (UNASA), with the support of the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC), and the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO), is hosting its 4th Annual Model United Nations: South African Universities (MUNSAU) Conference. Running from 12 – 15 July, student delegates from various universities have gathered at the University of Pretoria to discuss the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s).

3.1 By 2030, reduce the global maternal mortality ratio to less than 70 per 100 000 live births.
3.2 By 2030, end preventable deaths of newborns and children under 5 years of age, with all countries aiming to reduce neonatal mortality to at least as low as 12 per 1000 live births and under-5 mortality to at least as low as 25 per 1000 live births. Continue reading

The United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) Pretoria organized a FUN Day for 90 grade 12 learners at Stanza Bopape Secondary School in Mamelodi Township in Pretoria on 28 April 2016.
