UNIC Tokyo will be organizing the Student Photo Contest along with Sophia University and also special cooperation from Getty Images Japan.
Following the success of last year’s contest, which amassed a total of 624 entries from 47 countries as far and wide as Afghanistan and Brazil, UNIC is running the photo contest once again to promote awareness of SDGs among students worldwide; we are encouraging participants to choose one or more of the 17 SDGs that interests them most, and express what it means to them through a photograph.
Blood transfusion saves lives and improves health, but many patients requiring transfusion do not have timely access to safe blood. Providing safe and adequate blood should be an integral part of every country’s national health care policy and infrastructure.

The UN Ocean Conference is taking place at UN headquarters in New York from 5 to 9 June 2017, coinciding with World Oceans Day (8 June). Co-chaired by Fiji and Sweden, the Conference aims to support the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 14: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.
Conference focuses attention on ocean pollution, overfishing and climate impacts
New York, 5 June— Warning that the special relationship between people and the ocean that brings untold benefits for life is under threat as never before, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres told the opening of the Ocean Conference that the problems of the ocean—all created by human activity, can all be reversed and prevented with decisive, coordinated action.
The Ocean Conference takes place at UN Headquarters in New York on 5-9 June and will mobilize action by all stakeholders—leaders of governments, the private sector, civil society, academic institutions, the scientific community—to advance the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 14 (SDG 14) which calls for efforts to conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources.
SDG Media Zone (5-8 June)
During the week of the Conference, the UN Department of Public Information in collaboration with the Office of the President of the UN General Assembly, UN Foundation and the Pvblic Foundation will host the SDG Media Zone—a live broadcast of interviews, panel discussions and other digital content—to engage people all around the world in the important conversations happening at the conference.
