International Holocaust Remembrance Day is a global memorial day on 27 January in honour of the victims of the genocide  in which an estimated 6 million Jews and others were killed by the Nazi regime and its collaborators. The International Holocaust Remembrance Day was designated by the United Nations General Assembly on 1 November 2005.

The event is commemorated annually by the UN. This year, a number of activities in Pretoria, Durban and Cape Town are planned to mark the day.

Mr. Mogens Lykketoft, President of the seventieth session of the General Assembly; H.E. Mr. Danny Danon, Permanent Representative of Israel to the United Nations; H.E. Ms. Samantha Power, Permanent Representative of the United States to the United Nations other senior UN officials.
